Robertshaw Trophy Competition
Last night, we hosted the 50th Robertshaw Trophy Competition. Leek won the first competition in 1969, and over the intervening years, the trophy has been won by all of last night’s contenders, as well as Stoke and Congleton Camera Clubs.
This year, the competing clubs were Blythe Bridge CC, Crewe PS, Holmes Chapel PS, Macclesfield CC and Leek PC. The Judge – Mr Mike Sharples ARPS, MPAGB, AFIAP had a difficult task in marking each of the 60 projected images out of 20. After the first round he had held back 38 images for further consideration, those images marked receiving 15 or 16 points, an indication of their quality.
Further deliberations narrowed the final selection to around a dozen, and Mike awarded 3 images with the top mark of 20 points. Two were from Macclesfield – “Alter Ego” by Paul Scott and “Velocipede” by Steve Gresty, and “Kingfisher Feeding his Mate” by Leek’s Paul Matthews.
This proved crucial, as Macclesfield and Leek tied for 1st place with 206 points, with Crewe 3rd with 198, followed by Holmes Chapel on 197 and Blythe Bridge on 196.
