Report - Fran Halsall's Atmospheric Peakland Scenery

Fran Halsall, BA Hons. LBIPP, last week gave us one of the best presentations we have had at the Club. Her totally uplifting images are packed full of atmospheric peakland scenery. Right through the spectrum, from an exciting boldness to a gentle sensitivity, all the images illustrate her brilliant artistic flair.

It is her constant empathy with the natural world that guides Fran’s photography and this results in masterclass quality works of art. The extent of her photographic achievements can be seen on her website, and for anyone who loves beautiful scenery, a visit is a “must”. Her book, The Peak District, published last year, is also a wonderful collection which promises to inspire us all.

“Imagination” is the name of the game tomorrow, 29th January, when we hold our annual Major Creative competition. This is the time when the manipulative side of some members is revealed, digitally speaking of course. The endlessly surprising images this brings forth are highly entertaining.

In sharp contrast, there can be no twisting of the truth in the Major Photojournalism competion also held that evening. This focuses on factual images so members have been out and about searching for that winning picture-story, and maybe a front page scoop.

An especially interesting evening of projected images is assured and visitors will be most welcome, admission £1. The venue is Moorlands House, SMDC head offices, Leek, starting at 7.30 pm.
