Natural History Print Competition

Our first “major” print competition of the season attracted 47 entries from 14 members.  Subjects included familiar garden birds and local wildlife, more exotic species, geographical formations and plants.

Judge Tony Pioli ABPE, FBPE, ARPS, FRPS had a challenging evening to reach his final selection as the standard was so high.  He held back 26 images at the halfway point, but whittled this down to 14 for awards after the tea break.

The winning image was “Willet Landing” by Ken Tate who was also awarded third place for “Red Deer Stag “ and a Very Highly Commended (VHC) for “Great Blue Heron at Sunset”, three of his four entered images being successfully placed. Second went to Kevin Burton with “Swallowtail”, Kevin also received a Highly Commended (HC) for “Fungi”.

Special mention must go to Ray Baddeley who received awards for all four of his entered images – two VHC and two Commended (C ).

Other successful images were by Cliff Hughes – VHC, David Graham – HC, and Len Claydon, Adam Geary and Joe Tate (our Junior Member) all receiving C.

This has brought a slight change to the top of the Print League Table – Len Claydon remains at the top – just, one point ahead of Kevin Burton in second place and David Travis and Ken Tate vying for fourth place. Cliff Hughes and Ray Baddeley in joint sixth – just 5 points covering these six members.
