Photographic Bio

Hi, I am the Digital Competition Secretary for Leek Photographic Club. I think I got my interest in photography from my Dad, and have been taking pictures since the early 60s. I don't specialise in any particular subject, but I do enjoy capturing backlit subjects and natural history, both flora and fauna. I also love B&W and will spend quite some time with software to convert the colour RAW file into a Black & White image. Since moving to digital photography I also enjoy playing with the images using a combination of Lightroom, Photoshop and plug-in filters such as Topaz and Nik Software. I don't always manage to capture the 'Picture' I want in camera, but I know that, if there is a picture lurking in the image I come back with, then with the use of software I can pull it out.

Camera equipment

I have recently switched to Sony, as an affordable way of returning to Full Frame cameras. I now use the A7iii mirrorless camera with, currently, the kit 28-70mm lens, although I will be upgrading that to a better quality lens for day to day shooting. I also have the Sigma 100-400mm Canon fit lens, which I use via a Sigma Canon-Sony adaptor. I'm still getting used to the camera, but so far I am very impressed with it. I will add some new images once I start to use it in anger.

Preferred subjects

Natural History, Black & White, Urban/Street
